Overview

We're looking for a Tech Lead to guide a team of backend engineers building our core Python platforms. You'll combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership — setting architecture direction, making key design decisions, and growing a high-performing team. This role is for an engineer with 6-8 years of experience, including time leading projects or people, who can balance delivery, quality and long-term maintainability.

Responsibilities

Lead a team of 4-8 engineers across design, development and delivery
Own system architecture for backend services built with Python, Django and FastAPI
Make and document key technical decisions and trade-offs
Partner with product management to plan roadmaps and estimate work
Set coding standards, review critical code and drive engineering best practices
Ensure reliability, performance and security of production systems
Hire, mentor and conduct regular 1:1s with team members
Communicate progress, risks and technical direction to stakeholders

Requirements

6-8 years of software engineering experience, mostly in backend development
Expert-level Python with deep experience in Django and/or FastAPI
At least 2 years leading engineering teams or large technical projects
Strong system design skills: distributed systems, databases, caching, queues
Experience running production systems on AWS or GCP with Docker / Kubernetes
Proven ability to mentor engineers and improve team processes
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
